The clan\u2019s communal property is preserved\nand administered through the daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relationships are defined through the\nmother\u2019s line, matrilineal. All the decedents of a common great-grandmother\nalong the female line are related. This includes the son, but not the children\nsired by that son. Giving birth is decisive for belonging, not siring\noffspring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nuclear families as we understand them do\nnot exist in matriarchal cultures. There are clans, which&nbsp; are primarily matrilocal. That means a woman\ndoes not move in with her husband, (or go to a new place with him), but the man\nmoves in with his wife\u2019s clan. Much evidence indicates that there may have been\ntimes when there people did not marry at all, like the Mosuo in China today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When all members of a culture remain\nfocused on the mother \u2013 it is a matriarchal community. Es sind weitestgehend egalit\u00e4re  Gemeinschaften, d.h. nicht, dass M\u00e4nner und Frauen alle dasselbe machen  und k\u00f6nnen, sondern, dass ihr Tun und Handeln auf Balance und Konsens basieren.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Die Vererbungsstruktur einer matriarchalen Gemeinschaft ist matrilinear organisiert, d.h. der\ngemeinschaftliche Klanbesitz wird \u00fcber die T\u00f6chter erhalten und verwaltet.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Die\n Verwandtschaft ist \u00fcber die Linie der Mutter, also matrilinear, \ndefiniert. Verwandt sind also alle\nNachkommen einer gemeinsamen Ur-Gro\u00dfmutter in weiblicher Linie. D.h., \nein Sohn geh\u00f6rt dazu, aber die Nachkommen, die ein Sohn zeugt, geh\u00f6ren \nnicht dazu. Nicht das Zeugen ist entscheidend bei der\nZugeh\u00f6rigkeit, sondern das Geb\u00e4ren.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>(Kern)Familien\n in unserem Verst\u00e4ndnis gibt es in matriarchalen Kulturen nicht. Es gibt\n Klane, die\nweitestgehend matrilokal verortet sind. D.h., nicht die Frau zieht zum \nMann (oder mit dem Mann zusammen an einen neuen Ort), sondern der Mann \nzieht zur Frau und ihrem Klan. Viele Indizien sprechen\ndaf\u00fcr, dass es Zeiten gab, in denen es gar keine Eheschlie\u00dfungen gab, \nwie heute noch bei den Mosuo in China.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Wenn  im Fokus aller Mitglieder einer Kultur die Mutter steht \u2013 dann sind es  matriarchale Gemeinschaften. Viele Forscherinnen bevorzugen die Bezeichnung Matrifokalit\u00e4t, um dem  mehr als ein Jahrhundert andauernden akademischen Streit um das  Matriarchat eine Ende zu setzen. In unseren Geschichtsb\u00fcchern kommt es nicht vor \u2013 und wenn doch, dann mit einer  seit Jahrzehnten falschen Definition von Matriarchaten als  Frauenherrschaften. Der \u00f6ffentliche Bildungskanon wird nicht m\u00fcde zu betonen, dass es solche Gesellschaften nie gegeben hat. Und wir  matriarchale Bildungsreferentinnen und Forscherinnen werden nicht m\u00fcde,  dies zu best\u00e4tigen und mit einem gro\u00dfen ABER zu versehen. Denn das griechische Wort \u201a<em>arch<\/em>\u00e9 bedeutet nicht nur Herrschaft, sondern vor allem auch \u201eAm Anfang\u201c.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Matriarchate  als Frauenherrschaften hat es nicht gegeben \u2013 doch Kulturen, die  friedlich, egalit\u00e4r und mutterzentriert sind, die hat es gegeben und es gibt sie auch heute.
